Quinnipiac Poll: Christie, Hillary in Dead HeatWednesday, 13 Nov 2013

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton are virtually tied when it comes to a potential presidential matchup in 2016, according to the latest Quinnipiac University Poll.
Of 2,545 registered voters surveyed Nov. 6-11, 43 percent said they plan to back the governor, while 42 percent said they favor Clinton.
"It's a long way off, and no one is officially a candidate yet, but the Hillary Clinton-Chris Christie race to the White House is neck-and-neck before the campaign even saddles up," said Tim Malloy, assistant director of Quinnipiac University Polling Institute.
Clinton would be Christie's major opposition, the poll indicates, because she leads other possible Republican candidates by at least 9 points. Her margin of support over Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul is 49 percent to 40 percent, while she draws 51 percent against Texas Sen. Ted Cruz's 36 percent, and 49 percent to Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan's 40 percent.
Gender also comes into play between Christie and Clinton supporters. Women picked Clinton by a 48 percent to 39 percent margin, while men picked Christie by 47 percent to 35 percent.
Among party-affiliated respondents, Democrats picked Clinton by 85 percent to 6 percent, while Republicans chose Christie by nearly the same spread: 85 percent to 5 percent. But independent voters leaned toward Christie by a margin of 48 percent to 32 percent.
Among Hispanics, Clinton polled ahead of Christie 46 percent to 38 percent. She also beat the governor among black respondents 77 percent to 12 percent, but white voters leaned toward Christie by a 50 percent to 35 percent margin.
Asked whether each of the potential candidates would turn out to be a "good" president, 54 percent said Clinton would and 49 percent said Christie would.
As for other potential candidates, most survey respondents said they did not think Paul, Cruz, or Ryan would be very good at being the nation's chief executive. They also said the same thing about Vice President Joe Biden, who also is reportedly considering a run for the top job.
