Lawyers are way too expensive and its really not fair that some get good ones and others are forced to use legal aid or do it yourself books like NOLO or use "We The People". I think to solve this need to pass the "Affordable Legal Representation Act" and force and mandate everyone to hire a lawyer at $400 / hour or if you can't get, subsidized and only pay $100 / hour. BTW - the law now mandates you see said lawyer for at least 10 hours a year just to go over your affairs. Now you can afford the top legal representation and its only going to cost you $100 an hour - what a bargain!

Oh you don't need a lawyer today? Well at some point you might even though you go to work, pay your bills and bother no one. So eat your peas citizen.

BTW - for compliance - you have to attach your legal retainer letter with your new law firm to your Tax Return at the end of the year or the IRS is going to fine you.

I think that will do the trick to solve this national crisis. Thoughts?

I think the crux of the issue is the amount of people that look @ the court system as an alternative to lottery tickets.

Damn - I just hurt my finger replying to your post. You'll be hearing from my lawyer...

Wills, real estate closings, divorces, criminal representation - all way too expensive.   Time for Obama to intervene on this scandal.

I don't think you need an intervention.

Is the lack of lawyers pushing prices up or is there a gentlemans agreement amongst them to charge ludicrous rates (and pad their hours, it has to be said)?

If it is collusion, then it's an anti-trust issue more than needing new regulation. Regulations are already there.
