it s a marketing move, kobe brings in fans in arena on tv sell s marchandising, so what he earns is proportional to what he make them earn out of his image, it has nothing to do with basketball or winning games anymore it is strictly business at this point.
Everyone themsleves included knows they re not going anywhere anytime soon, the question is how to keep stupid people who identify with, imitate kobe pouring their money into the franchise, nothing else.

with not much to look forward to the Lakers had to ensure that their TV network package continue to generate ratings. Also they had to placate the season ticket holders. This was a move to sure up the fan base.  If they decided to start over they would lose more than $50 million.

This was a good financial move for them.  The Yankees are in the same boat.

again it  s all about money, and money wise it was the best thing to do. You dont know what really hapen in the background, obviously all of this is orchestrated way deeper than we think; it  sometimes feel scripted, lets not forget that lakers are out but...are replaced by clippers, in the same fucking city. Players are actors and commentators pretend to start shit etc but it s all bullshit to keep people entertained and pouring their money into the whole circus.
