Have you ever found success -- and I mean, something you really consider crucial -- by following a principle you discovered on your own, one which goes against bodybuilding custom, or isn't often talked about?

Examples of the former might be, gal and no one utterly denying the "eat big to get big" principle, or dorian's "machines are better than squats", or those people who don't use test in their stacks.  As for the latter, I remember some huge mofo from the T-nation forums who swore by hammer strength machines, really couldn't live without them -- I mean, yeah, lots of people like hammer strength, but hardly anyone would claim they're the be-all-end-all of exercise.

Many, many times.

Once you understand physiology and the kinesiology of bodybuilding, it's not to difficult to stray away from what the rags and everyone else thinks is right. Plus, once you have a solid base of muscle, it's pretty easy to see what it takes to keep it with minimal effort.

Muscle memory is a great thing. As much as I hate that whole "mind-muscle" connection thing... it actually helps tremendously.

I honestly have found based on personal experience literally 80% of the EXACT opposite of everything "i am supposed to do"/ have read BB mags/articles to actually make me the most progress.

Too many to mention but some examples based of top of my head.

Some personal examples for me:

A) "Protein is what builds muscle".........bullshit, it's total calories/energy consumed and carbs and fats is what builds me the most muscles.
B) "You need to do cardio to lose fat"......bullshit best shape I ever got into I did literally zero cardio.
C) "You need to get strong to get big/build muscle"........bullshit strength has fuck all to do with building muscle/size.
D) "Free Weights are better than machines".....uhh bullshit some of the isolation/contraction you get with some machines hit the muscle in way free weights never can particularly with some back exercises etc.
E) "You shouldn't weight train more than 1 hour in a session"........uhh suck my cock Arnold trained 6 hours a day sometimes.

F) "Diet is the most important part"......yeah its important but not half as important as drugs.

in 99 nobody knew dick about insulin.. I believe I was one of the first to push the envelope with doses in the 40, 50, 60iu range, just to find out if the 'omg it's sooo dangerous.. it'll kill you quickly!' nonsense was true... it wasn't... and also isn't the Holy Grail for muscle growth.

also.... all the fear-mongering that comes with high dose steroid use.. all the fear of side effects.. like "omg, at 2g test per week you'll be a water bucket.. soo puffy your eyes will look Chinese and cheeks like a basketball.. and covered with acne and you'll be bald in 2 months" ect... simply not true for most. and the guys who promote this fear-mongering are just repeating the myths they've been told without ever having the experience to back it up.
