I GOT DEGENERATIVE DISC DISEASE,HERNIATIONS ON 4 DISCS,BULGING DISCS,SIATICA NERVE KILLS ME EVERYDAY TO THE POINT I CANT SLEEP IN MOST POSITIONS, I FOUND SOME RELIEF LATELY THO,I GET A BELT USED FOR WEIGHTED DIPS AND PUT A 100LB DUMBELL HANGING FROM MY WAIST THEN I STRAP MY HANDS TO CHIN BAR AND STRETCH AS LONG AS I CAN POSSIBLY HOLD,THATS BEEN HELPING ME OUT BIG BIGTIME,WHAT RELIEF FELLAS,ITS WORTH A SHOT FOR U GUYS
............................................wow i bet your getting a pretty good stretch on that lower lumber from doing that

try this one too.  if u have a standing preacher lean over it so that your waist is at the top or the bench where your underarm would usually go.  lean your upper body forward so that your legs come off the floor.  stay here bout a minute so the weight of your legs pulls your low back open.  often you can get the low back to pop open like this. oh...your legs go off the slanted side not the side that is straight up n down.

sounds cool,im gonna try that tomorrow morning when im done doing back,its sounds like a good stretch in lower lumbar region,thanks slik I appreciate the tip

Another old school exercise thats not done much anymore is the hanging knee raise,hang from the chinning bar and bring the knees up high,same thing as stretching out the spine.Its funny but when i started training in 1979 these were exercises that everyone did in the gym and no-one ever had bad backs.

THAT is a very astute observation. Although I knew guys with lower back issues years ago, they certainly were the minority compared with today.
