A bodybuilder died after he drank a weedkiller sold by a gym owner as a fat-burning drug, a jury has been told.

Sean Cleathero was captured on CCTV downing the bright yellow insecticide DNP at his local gym before heading for a workout.

The 28-year-old collapsed at his High Wycombe home less than eight hours later after his temperature rose to 42 degrees Celsius, then suffered a fatal heart attack at hospital.

Gym owner Jamie Chivers, 44, is now on trial for manslaughter for supplying him with the drug

Would not at all go for manslaughter, at least in the US meaning of the term. May be reckless endangerment or something similar. The victim is as culpable as the seller in my eye.

This is the sickness of bodybuilding. This guy is sticking stuff in his body given to him by someone else. Brilliant. If you told a bodybuilder that eating dog shit made them bigger, they would be eating it.

Especially for those who are dumb enough to believe every piece of advice they are given including drinking hopefully unknown substances to loose weight. I say hopefully because there is always the possibility he was told weed killer would work to lose weight. I guess that is correct since after you die, you do lose weight.

okay wait. did he just get straight-up weedkiller or was he sold DNP? that's kinda important here. if it's the first case then the gym owner is definitely culpable unless he said "this is actually weedkiller", but if it was just DNP then he's not because, well, DNP is what it is and people who take it are rolling the dice.

"It is however regarded as unfit for human consumption. DNP still is used as a herbicide and an insecticide and has chemical explosive properties requiring it to be carefully handled."
