This shit is absolutely maddening, and anyone even center of left, black or white, has understood this for years. Sadly, he nailed the most depressing part: "we're never going to be successful," my emphasis. Racist, cynic, or realist, I can't imagine any scenario where, as a culture, the American ("white") formula for success will ever be considered acceptable. Nothing worse than acting white.

So, predictably, Barkley will get Tommed, and self-serving, guilty white Liberals will continue to empower the victim mentality with oppressive historical narrative, fallacy-laden statistics, and any fucking nuance they can contrive to excuse poor decisions.

I get it, I'm a total racist. Apologies, I sorta believed pigment didn't matter, historic injustices had been corrected, and we all could be measured by the same standard now, like MLK envisioned. For the life of me, I will never understand how the Left's coddling, pandering, and absolute refusal to regard our fellow citizens as fully capable Americans is not considered humiliatingly patronizing and racist. But such is life in the post-sixties States.

To me, there is no "white formula ---going to school, respectful, obeying laws---that is universal. In asian countries and in African countries. In West African fables, there are  stories about the protaganist being intelligent, studious, or outwitting or outsmarting their opponents.
 
One of the albatrosses around black folk's neck is the maddening self hate---that was somewhat surppressed during segregation. It was there, but when you only had your people to help you out, you were less apt to hate on or denigrate your own.

Funny I had Cletus in mind 

It's always the first hillbilly name that pops into my mind.  Funny thing, I've only known one Cletus in my life and he was an older guy who owned apartment buildings and wasn't a hillbilly at all.  Yet, the name sticks.
