Unless they're psychic mediums it's safe to say he isn't dead.

Well played.

Various people who are extremely close to Richard tell TMZ ...

Who exactly is "extremely close to Richard"?  For all his public persona over the last thirty-plus years I have never head of him having a public romance or even a friendship with anyone.  At a time when every other celebrity is coming out or being outed Richard remains untouched by any word about his personal life.  And what kind of individual is attracted to a Richard Simmons? ???  That is the real mystery to me.  Then again, Liberace had a long term partner so I guess anything is possible.

It's a sad fact of gay life that there's nothing lonelier than an old queen.  Even money can't help them past a certain age or period of physical deterioration.  Richard Simmons is probably suffering from reality.

Quote
The death of Richard Simmons' dog played an important part in the depression that has turned him into a shut-in ... a dog he considered his child.

TMZ broke the story ... Richard hasn't been seen in public for almost 11 months ... and the trigger was a looming knee replacement which shut Richard down professionally and socially.

Sources close to Richard tell us his Dalmatian Hattie died within days of his last public sighting back in January. Richard took the dog with him when he was out and about in L.A. and would often brag about her in his exercise classes.

Richard -- who never had kids of his own -- treated Hattie like a child. Richard had several Dalmatians and Hattie was the last survivor.

Richard had a deep bond with the dog, who was 17 when she died ... and it destroyed him.

exactly, have to take the context into consideration. his whole life is wrapped up in his physical appearance and his ability to be amped up and all over the place.
You can swim with a bum knee, and its one of the best low impact exercises to do. I notice a lot of old folks with physical impairments doing water exersises or slow lap swimming when I'm getting my daily swim in.

agreed, but his money, fame and success was not wrapped up in exercising in water.

Simmons is funny to watch, but name any other person that's done more for fat people (as a whole and individually) besides him.

I respect what he's done for others, and how he's built such a massive empire doing so over the years.

With that said, of all ailments to get depressed over, he loses his shit over a damn knee?

I don't get it.   ???

What has he done specifically?

I just see him dance at Letterman. Seems pretty out of it.

True, I guess if you make a living involving fitness outside the pool then it would be hard to transition. Still worth it imo.

i agree, on a personal level, it would make sense to continue exercising in water.

He runs a health club in Beverly Hills and teaches classes.  He does look a bit worn but he's almost 70 years old.

He had an exercise/motivational show for fatties when I was a kid. Lots of tears even back then. Big cryer, this one.
