Betil has him on arms in that particular pic the rest is just too close.

But get them together in 14 mandatory poses and Haney is simply better than Fox.

I have a dvd around here somewhere "Brutal Fox 2". he uses some very heavy weights.
Works up to 180 lb dumbbells for 11 easy reps (bench), does 500 on incline bench for fairly high reps, etc.

Uses some body English to get some of the weights up, but still a very strong focker...

100lb seated dumbbell curls theres a video on youtube somewhere , swinging form but brute strength and a ton of aggression and intensity when he trained. I think he was just an angry guy.

I was never a fan of his build but his approach to power training and intensity always interested me. The main reason why he was so dense and strong IMO.

Here he is with 3rd place Lee Haney.

Bertil seems to be owning him here (upper body).
He talked shit about judges a lot of times, may have hurt his placings...

Once they turned around Haney destroyed Bertil. Bertil did have one of the thickest chests and inccredible arms of all time though.

I think structurally and also the way Bertil worked out was to blame. When it comes to working the back, Bertil's somewhat sloppy/anything goes style of lifting doesn't work for back. Also, he was about being "big" which means usually translates to a "front" bodybuilder. When they turn around, their back doesn't match their front. Guys like Strydom, Dillett, Nasser, come to mind.

bertil was awesome....don't get me wrong......but lee was far and away better than bertil......lee had better flow and one of the very best backs in the history of the sport......plus bertil could not pose anywhere near lee haney.


lee was also a hell of a lot more consistent than bertil.

They had great muscle bellies but thats about it... Doesn't mean they looked better.

Bertil was a mass monster freak, who was way ahead of his time. Guy was mad strong in the gym. Had legit 22" biceps. The judges were so hard on him that he began to lose more and more weight and by 1987 he was a shadow of his former self. He was at his best in 1982 and 1983 (230-240 pounds). Not the gaunt 215 pounds he would show up at in late competitions (Again, because the judges told him to lose the mass). If he had competed in the 1990's, he would have been 260 onstage (which was his offseason weight in the early '80's).

may not of had the prettiest build and i know a show aint won on a few poses but man his side chest and most muscular are really impressive, im wondering what a brual bertil cycle was,never struck me as the type to go nuts and abuse everything,i think he was so blessed with good genetics that he prolly grew just as fast eating mass amounts of chicken and steak ect then he woulda on more drugs,its a fact the better genetic guys dont have to go as far into the darkside cause they dont have to,where a bodybuilder that has shitty genetics has to try to go to the point of no return into the darkside just trying to keep up with the good genetics guy

This is a good post.

You can tell by looking at certain bodybuilders that they just have insane genetic response to the drugs.. I'm talking only having to run one or 2 extra compounds on top of Test.
