These two rarely get along well, just because first ones seek for a "state" (of "feeling good", be it drugs, religion or self delusion), second - stand for a factual reality even if sometimes it's not the most pleasurable one.

The main issue with stand alone robotics is the requirement for power.  Once someone can develop a microcell that can find and generate endless energy allowing a robot to be vital without downtime is when we'll need to worry.
