I used to go to the Olympia every year and at that time the weekend was more centered around bodybuilding.  Now the Arnold and the Olympia have become fitness "festivals" that feature just about any kind of physical activity.  Powerlifting, strongman, kettle bell lifting, karate, jiu-jitsu and every imaginable martial art....fucking arm wrestling for crissakes.  I think I understand why this happened but for me it's not a plus.  I don't really care about all that other crap.  That stuff is not what I'm there to see.

These events are so huge now that you can't even walk in the expo and you have to wait in a mile long line just to see anyone up close.  The expo used to be free and you would get all kinds for free samples of protein powder and other supplements.  Now it's 50 to 60 bucks to get in to that.  What are you paying for?  I should pay them $60 to wait in line for an entire afternoon to meet Lou Ferrigno....and then pay him another $20 for a Polaroid picture with him?  What the fuck is going on here?

I'm sure there are many who disagree with me.  I'm curious to hear some opinions from Getbiggers and see if I'm the only one.  Where am I wrong?  What am I missing?

Those cruising for cock, the mentally insane, the obese, the crazy. I went to a fitness expo back in the UK. Quickly GTFO after seeing two guys making out in the middle of the common areas. Saw Greg Plitt. Cool guy but so high on coke and stimulants that he could barely speak. Then there was a UK bodybuilder walking around in his underwear wearing pink angel wings on his back with a pink tank top.

Honestly man, never again.

What the problem with arm wrestling? To me, it makes total sense why arm wrestling may be featured at an Olympia expo. However, I agree that the other shit like martial arts, kettle bell lifting, cheerleading, MMA, etc. They even have archery and tennis at the arnold expo lol

In my opinion, the four main sports which all coincide with each other, and which I have no problem being part of the same expo or event are:

Bodybuilding
Powerlifting
Strongman
Arm wrestling

All the other bullshit can go.

It's like I've always said, the notion that bb is NOT a pagent is silly

It's about good looking bodies with proportion as much as muscles and cuts.

Today it is fake looking muscle with a side of atrophy and bad skin, topped off with an appaling gut.

I think everybody knows inside, bb today is a pure freakshow gone astray from what inspires people to train.

the arnold expo in the early to mid 90's was awesome.  no insane crowds, all bodybuilding, shitloads of free stuff.  You could basically walk up and talk to anyone.  Used to get the Arnold VIP tickets.   Can remember talking to Platz, Strydom, Ray etc. had a huge impact on me as a young kid.

In simple terms I guess what I'm saying is that I just miss those days.

I do not enjoy what the contests have morphed into.

A waste of many years for me to arrive at this conclusion.

Getbig isn't devoted to bodybuilding, it is a Bodybuilding, Figure and Fitness Forum.  Not everyone who lifts weights cares about bodybuilding. if anything, most people who lift see bodybuilding as a disturbing aspect of the activity the enjoy.  Many workout for the health, strength and fitness benefits it brings.  Those who consume vast amounts of toxic and dangerous drugs to look like a circus freak will always be ridiculed and remain on the fringes of society.  Hope this helps.

I think most pure bodybuilding contests are seldom profitable. The expo type bigger event is more popular with the public. Add Arnold's name and you have instant publicity.

If you look at the events and seats sold out at the Aussie Expo in a couple of days you will see all the expensive seats have been sold.

From the list of top champions being there, not necessarily competing, you will understand that this is a very expensive event to stage. Good luck to the promoters.

I find these expos horrible, since they're loaded with fake acting people.

I even remember the dates I started training and the exact date I threw my last boiled chicken breast in the rubbish. I started training to be a bodybuilder on November 29, 1996. I 'quit' on November the 13th, 1999. I still train but only for fitness, shape and feel good. I train heavy but don't take it serious.

Fuck that lifestyle.

That's how it SHOULD be and not the circus freakshow that it is today.

I went to one bodybuilding contest and could not believe how long and boring it was so I've never gone to another.  I always thought it would be fun to walk around an expo but it sounds like that is not even feasible due to the crowds.
