Smart move getting it repaired.  In the long run you'll be much happier that you did.

Good point.  Just goes to show... when in doubt, go to the doc immediately and get the medical/imaging tests done.

Update: 03/19/2015

Week one down.  Feeling good so far, still have localized pain in the upper arm where the tendon was reattached to the humerus bone, but it's manageable. Still icing 4-5x per day, but have been off pain Meds since day 4.  I have been removing the arm from the sling a few times a day and doing a sort of hammer curl movement in order to keep the shoulder neutral and lubricate the elbow and it feels much better each day.  I have my first follow up tomorrow with the surgeon.

Considering these tears almost always occur at the arm insertion, perhaps a wide grip when performing pressing movements is ill advised.

Good luck with the recovery.

I've racked my brain as to how it happened.  I did have a fairly wide grip on the bench, but I feel it was mostly due to a muscle/strength imbalance in my left and right side vs the grip on the bench.  It's going to be something I focus on in the coming months after returning from injury.  I had some minor pain in my left shoulder blade area several times throughout the last year, but it had not bothered me in quite some time, even though I have considered the fact that the pain and injury could have been potentially caused by an issue in the C6/C7 region in my back.

Thanks for the well wises Thin Lizzy.

Kurt Cobain and Beethoven could not push through the pain.
Neither one made it to the Olympia stage either. Your Point?

Update: 04/01/2015

Currently sitting at 3 weeks post surgery and 4 weeks post injury and things are going very well.  Still have a couple weeks left in the sling, but I am pretty mobile at this point and it's no big deal.  I have a follow up again with the doc on 04/17 and am anxious to see what he thinks about how I am healing up so far, and defintely feel a few weeks ahead of schedule.  Really feel like my ROM is going to be there sooner rather than later, but at 3 weeks I still don't want to push anything too fast due to still being in the protective stage.

Have been doing some light PT on my own doing some pendulum excercises and basic curl movements with no weight and every thing feels great so far.

Thanks again to everyone that's reached out via PM with the well wishes, it's been very appreciated!

I haven't been a big supplement guy over the last few years, but have been taking high dose Vit-C, along with high dose Cissus, MSM, ZMA, Bone Broth and BCAA's.

Thanks Calvin

Recovery will go in stages so hang in there. at first you'll be all gung ho then after awhile it gets repetitive and boring so just keep grinding.

how much were you bench pressing at the time?

I stopped progressing past 260lbsx12 because weights above that are injury territory. Also I am lifetime natural and going for greek statue body so don't need to go any heavier.

ignore it and push through it, visualize the weight going up and going down. no pain no gain pal
