That slap from the teacher may have produced VERY short-term behavioral change, but hardly long-term future change. Do you think if this kids violent and aggression continues, hes going to say to himself in 10 years, "Oh yeah, I should not be violent because a teacher slapped me." If this kid has SERIOUS mental problems that are leading to extreme forms of violence and aggression, than, no, one slap from a teacher will not curb long-term violence and aggression. In fact, I doubt it will produce any long-term behavioral change at all.
What about all the gang members who were slapped as children? Many of them report being putting in their place by adults. I am sure they learned many harsh lessons. It worked out great for them in terms of curbing their long-term violence and aggression, huh? Such upstanding citizens. Why didn't the slaps they received curb their violence and aggression in adulthood?
