Agreed, but lets say they had a choice between two guys, who both had equivalent amount of money, one looked like a mens physique competitor (not super muscular, but good conditioning, six pack, and enough muscle), and the other has a "dad bod" and someone asked them to pick one for a one night stand, guaranteed they'd go with the muscular guy. For long-term relationship with feelings involved, I'd bet they'd go with the "dad bod" (btw, can we use some other term? if I type "dad bod" one more time I'll throw up on my keyboard).
Its an oversimplification, of course, but knowing how self-absorbed fit guys are, its no surprise women want nothing to do with them long-term.
Yes, they'd go with the "DAD BOD" but not because muscular men spend too much time in the gym. Women use this as an excuse: I dont want to date a muscular man because they spend too much time in the gym or they are self-centered, etc. Total bullshit. Many muscular men have families, jobs, etc, and are able to balance the two just fine (working out and job/family). The only reason they do not want a really muscular man is because maybe they feel intimidated, thinking other women will be going after him. Or perhaps they are not in good shape themselves.
As I stated previously, the general population does not have a clue about exercise and fitness. People think you have to spend all day in the gym lol. You can go to the gym 4-6x per week, 45-90 minutes each session, eat right, and have a good body. Hell, you can do all of this before going to work, so youre free at night. It doesn't take much. But people who are out of shape want to feel better about themselves and say its impossible to have a good body unless you're obsessed.
