Can you achieve decent legs without heavy weight?
« on: May 19, 2015, 07:27:24 AM »
Slipped disc in back and knees start swelling when I do heavy machine presses do what am I left with? Looking for a routine and frequency of routine from fellow getbiggers. Vim not looking to be Tom Platz just want a nice set of wheels.

What's heavy for you? And what weight are you comfortable up to on squats and press?

accept that your knees and back aren't the same and start swimming and yoga.

I'm in the same boat.
Here's what works, but it's tough to stick with . 100% serious.

Try this quad routine:

1. Leg extensions - 2 warm up sets , then triple drop set: 10 reps to failure, lower wt, 5-6 more reps, lower wt, 5-6 more reps.
2. Leg press - 2-3 warm sets then 1 set of 10-12 to moderate failure ( deep , smooth, full reps)
3. hack squats - 2 warm up sets then 1 set of 12-15 to failure.
4. 1 leg step ups on to bench holding DB - 1 brief warm up set , no wt, then 1 to failure 15-20 reps holding DB.
Done in full range of motion under control, the 1 leg step up is like an ultimate 1 leg squat. Hold pole for balance.

Absolutely.
"Heavy" is very bad concept. And its only Word. Simply it means that If you lift 6 reps to the failure, thats "heavy".
Unfortunately, legs grow with 12-20 INTENSE quality reps. Thats not relatively "heavy".

Yes.  Cycling (on a bike) is one way... but you have to seriously commit to it.  Doom approves.

Good point. I think Tom Platz did some cycling along with his intense high rep squats.
Best leg pump is when I do higher rep leg work , followed with some intense cycling on a quality exercise bike.

I am going to print this out and tape it to my gym wall.

Why is that hard to stick with?  Looks easy.

fucking too right you can, smith squat, extensions, leg press all with a narrow stance, ankles in line with hips, go as heavy as you need to so failure occurs at the 15 - 20 rep range on every exercise 4-5 sets average per exercise and finish every leg day with an inner thigh isolation since your not squatting wide.

i like to start with a variation of squat, free, smith, plate loaded, hack then onto extensions or single leg extensions, depending on which one you decide to do swap it up to finish with the opposite being another two legged pushing exercise like leg press or unilateral leg exercise like lunges, one legged squat, one leg press, just fucking fry them.

split quads and hams into different days, i hit them every 5 days and spend roughly 50 - 60 minutes on quads alone, my legs dwarf my upper body to a stupid degree, i may even try training upper body with retarded volume just as an experiment.
