For the longest time, I was under the impression that people were generally decent because I am. I was in my late 20s before I realized that half the world is genuinely garbage and get off on making other people miserable. That is a characteristic I honestly don't understand, but once I realized and accepted it, I had no choice but to change how I interacted with the world.

Much the same here experience here. Sad that the dog eat dog mentality of society is what it is and it ends up hardening you
