Interesting post and some interesting comments from some of you GetBiggers.

FUNK, can you name the contestants on stage within that AAU shot?

I would bet a dollar to a do-nut that that photo was taken in Los Angeles at the Embassy Auditorium where most of the BB events were held back in them good old days.

THE SHAPE ... This is open to a major debate (I think I know-it-all  but sometimes I am mistaken) , but I think you are just a couple of years too early about road use among competitive bodybuilder back in them good old days.

I was there then and kept myself informed on any substance that would enhance body strength and little blue pills and 'footballs' were rare but they known about by strength enthusisiistsi (power and olympic lifters).

Strongly debatable here but based on my personal experience, road usage was slowly 'introduced' to competitive bodybuilders in the very early 1960's.

And I do recall that  the first printed article about steroid use I ever saw was in one of the Weider magazines with a printed statement on the cover about their muscle growth benefits.

But I don't recall the year that article was printed.

Maybe a fellow GetBigger may be able to find it someplace on the internet.

In the meantime I'm going to make a couples of calls to a couple of friends who were heavily involved in the game back then and try to get some definite answers about this road use subject which always seems o cause a lot a arguments from those who were not present and never lifted anything heavier than a knife and fork back in them good old days.

Thanks, Stunt

Rick Wayne's arms look insane there. Heard that he and Weider didn't exactly hit it off because he didn't want to play the role of house nigga.

SQUID, I don't know as much as you seem to do  about Wayne's personal life, but he wrote a monthly article in one of the Weider magazine that was one of the main reasons why the magazine was popular back then.

It wasn't about training too much but it mainly was a monthly update on the occurrences within the bodybuilding world which centered around the Southern California area.

He wrote well and it was always a good read.

Rick Wayne is under-rated. You have to chalk up his attitude to his old school Caribbean upbringing. You can here it when he talks, in his voice. He doesn't play around...so him dealing with Weider's shenanigans, it just didn't vibe with him.

FUNK, thanks for that info. This contest occurred a few years before I was concentrated in the So Cal area  and  can't recall meeting any of them but have been familiar with the names over the years.

JOE .... Am I incorrect is stating that Wayne had a monthly column in one of Weider's publications way before the 1990's.

I'll be doing my best to contact G. Mozee this week to update my memory banks.

In case you don't know G., I don't believe anyone in existence other than Mozee knows more about those good old days and the contenders who strove so hard to win a plastic trophy.

And he manages to stay in contact with a good number of those who have yet to make to that big gym up in the sky.

I have often encouraged him to write a book about the history of bodybuilding in Southern California, so sometime this week I will find out if he plans to do so.

SQUID ..... As Joe said above, Wayne's World was written for MD in the 1990's. but I recall that Wayne wrote sone damn interesting bodybuilding news way before 1990. I plan to check on this tomorrow with some old day friends of Rick's.

Thanks, Funk! Thanks, Joe! Thanks, SQUID!

JOE, RICK was the West Coast editor for Joe Weider’s magazine Muscle Builder, but I still have yet to find the years that he served in that capacity.

The attached is too much for me to read right now but it will most likely offer you more Rick Wayne info that can be digested by the average American citizen ... of which I am one.
