There is no perfect routine for everyone. You wanna add curls fucking do it. You'll find out if it works or not. EZ-curl bars suck IMO

I love the Starting Strength (SS) program, but I'm mystified by the lack of arm work. I'm getting seriously jacked on this routine but feel my arms could be freakier. My buds at the gym tell me DO NOT add to the SS program no matter what. I can't help but think a few sets with the ez-curl bar could hurt...

Although Rippetoe generally scoffs at the idea on weightlifting for aesthetic purposes he has endorsed weighted chins in some of his podcasts.

You should be g2g.

You can actually look at Rippetoe and tell that he doesn't like weightlifting for aesthetic purposes  :-X :-X

It's not a "bodybuilding" program. If you want to bodybuild follow a bodybuilding - type program.

Not Rippetoe, that's Roger Estep, a champion powerlifter and sometime bodybuilder that died a few years back. Some how he's been getting misidentified as Rippetoe the last few years. Rippetoe was stocky and fit, but never like that.

Bill Starr who is the Dean of 5 x 5 programs was fine with direct arm work, he just had you add it at the end of the workout, so it didn't affect the big lifts. He like 2 -3 sets each of biceps and triceps done right at the end of each training session, usually for middle or high reps.

By the way, Rippetoe young -

no it won't hurt.  tell your "buds at the gym" to use some basic fucking common sense.  do they really think that adding in some fucking bicep work will make or break a training program?  jesus it seems like everyone is just so overloaded with information from the internet that no one can just fucking train anymore.

even on this forum.  there was this fucktard a while back ranting about NEOPRENE KNEE SLEEVES and how its cheating.  this guy is seriously arguing about FUCKING GOD DAMN MOTHER FUCKING NEOPRENE FUCKING KNEE FUCKING SLEEVES!!!!!!!!!!!!!

like I told him.  I've NEVER met a strong guy or girl who quibbled over knee sleeves.  also I've NEVER met a strong guy or girl who quibbled over adding in some extra bicep work.  so go ahead and add in some bicep work.

also some dude once told me that if you build up your biceps it will help protect your shoulders when benching and overhead pressing.  that makes sense to me.  so on my accessory days I throw in some bicep work.   and i believe that my shoulders are healthier because of it.  I don't have a "bicep day" but I still throw it in when I can.

Great post!

I too am always taken back at the level of blind loyalty some have for a particular routine or diet plan.
I remember posting about my own methods to tweek DC training for my own unique needs.
The loyal DC nut huggers acted like I was going straight to gym hell if I dared did anything different.
