Back in '91 my high school's flag was the confederate flag.   There was a big ole conspiracy started by some of our black students and it garnered media attention and some public outcry.  The confederate flag was done away with within a few weeks of the initial outcry of "RACISM!!" and some protesting and local news hype.

Now the high school football team's fight song has been historically been "Dixie" (since the 60's).  The marching band played that for every touchdown and team introduction.  As I understand it today, prior to the current national media attention about the Confederate flag, the current students of my high school were petitioning to have "Dixie" done away with.....again with the cry of "RACISM"!!
