"Tainted Supplements"
« on: October 12, 2015, 05:19:50 PM »
Most overused excuse I've ever heard for testing positive for steroids in professional sports.

Ya because nandrolone is in your whey protein. smh... can't believe people actually believe this shit

There have been many verified cases of supplements tainted with illegal drugs, including steroids.
Some supplement vendors have special sections for verified doping free supplements... those which have been tested. Olympic Athletes for example are recommended by WADA to not use any supplements at all due to the contamination problem. And if they do use supplements they have to check with their national federation first etc. Attorneys have recommended to buy extra unopened containers of whatever you are going to use in case you have a tainted product, that way you can test it if you happen to fail a test.

Who would actually put expensive drugs into a protein supplement for example?

Wouldn`t they be taking a loss?

Steroids don't cost much. ALRI for example put anabolic steroids in some supposedly "herbal" test boosters. Same with Gaspari. Even put a Viagra analogue in Plasmajet which has no drugs as per the label.

Secondly, some raw material from for example China may be tainted because of poor manufacturing processes - drugs and legal supplements processed with same equipment for example. I remember a long time ago Muscletech products caused some athletes to fail drug test due to traces of "prohormones" in products with no prohormones on the label. Here in Sweden it was verified a carnitine supplement caused an athlete to fail for nandrolone metabolites - it was due to equipment used both for prohormones and the carnitine.

Check it out:

A friend used a water pill supplement for a show called Star Caps, his coach called me in panic due to the guy cramping violently in his hotel room. Did a google search a saw it was shown contaminated (intentionally spiked) with a powerful loop diuretic similar to Lasix.

Several National Football League players who took StarCaps recently tested positive for bumetanide and are facing suspension.

Over two decades of supplement use, yet I've never had any anabolics "accidentally" or purposely put in any OTC product I've used.

How do you know you haven't ingested any anabolics through your supplements?

This was never verified so impossible to know and all first batches are probably gone after these decades. :D

An educated and safe guess, especially after working a job where I've been drug-tested on a regular basis.

What job do they test for roids?

I actually got tested for that 20 years ago, when I worked at Bally during summer vacation.

Well, most jobs don't test for PEDs. An athlete however, has to be more careful, especially since an anabolic steroid doesn't even have to be explicitly banned since all steroid derivatives are banned anyway. So you might even get in trouble years after when the testing org discovers a new compound used and decides to retroactively test your stored samples. Same with the designer drug stimulants in all these "pre-workouts" used nowadays, not always even listed on the label (see Craze).

The odds of that happening are slim and none. Getting in trouble for something that wasn't illegal at the time you were tested is absurd.

You can and will get in trouble if you're a world class athlete tested by WADA. They have been explicit in explaining drug derivatives and doping methods are illegal even if not explicitly banned and they will get you even years after (I believe samples are stored for 8 years now). You can't even inject plain water over a certain volume.

Nowadays you don't even have to fail over a particular compound. You can test clean but if your blood parameters are off indicating manipulation you can be sanctioned.

Quick have them test OHearn.  Not for roids, for sanity and schmoenety.
