A single cup coffee maker is the happy medium between grinding your own beans and nuking. I have a Black and Decker with a washable filter. This is my go to coffee. As far as widely available brands, it's one of the best.

You can get "coffee singles" now...They are like tea bags, only coffee...you only need hot water...you only have to remember to keep the bag in the water for the full time...you regulate the potency by the amount of agitation you give it during the brew time.
