To answer the original post, money buys votes.

Politicians make decisions based upon who gives them the most cash, so they can advertise more and increase their chances of winning at the next election. As well as line their own pockets. It's all that matters.

Unfortunately in say, World Cup Soccer nominations, people seem to think these are different and want to crucify the heads of these or cry foul when their country doesn't offer enough money to the decision makers.

Laws aren't made based upon what's sensible or moral. It's about who's got the most cash. Marijuana possession used to result in jail time. Now it's all legal. What the fuck changed? Money to be made.

Excellent insight, but I think it is more about power than about money.

I should probably add that I am conflicted on the death penalty.

In some cases I wish we had it here. You know, sicko murderers who have no hope of rehabilitation or committed crimes without forgiveness. That said, state sanctioned murder has to be acknowledged if you call it the death penalty.

No, murder is the killing of an innocent person. There is no moral equivalence to putting a person to death for murdering someone.

I've bought 19 in the last 6 months without a background check.   :-\

Legally? How?

Correct. On a grand scale, there are lots of things that plague American society more than gun violence. Specifically, child abuse/neglect/maltreatment is the number one social issue plaguing our society, yet you rarely ever hear politicians talking about this. As we speak, there are probably MILLIONS of children being horrifically abused--politicians remain silent. This is even more ironic, considering that child abuse is a GLOBAL problem, not just an American problem. This should motivate politicians even more! Instead, they are too concerned with trying to take our guns away because they care more about their political agenda, than child abuse.

What?  No, pellius, I think you are not understanding properly what he is saying or are misinformed.  You do not need to pass a background check to buy a gun.  I can sell you my gun and you can buy it from me with no background check.  If you go to a store you need to fill out the form and have an instant background check done (some state require more).  If people are in the business of selling guns then they need to be licensed and get background checks done when they make sales.  But private party sales require no checks and no form.

No, not legally. I worked for years at a gun store.

Sure, you can sell me your gun. You can give me your gun. I can steal your gun. But without the proper paperwork it's illegal and if I do something illegal with that gun it's going to be traced back to you unless you also obtained that gun illegally.

Only those with an FFL can legally sell guns.

Fact is, the human species is right fucked, and the quicker its extinction, the better.

It pains me to say this, of course. Humans are capable of unbelievable accomplishment and good. Unfortunately, we cannot seem to extinguish our ugly side, as well. And our mental instability, best shown through our limitless sky-god delusions, makes us the ideal candidates for absolute demise.

Actually, I have to amend this post. The laws regarding private ownership does vary by State. In California and Hawaii, the States I'm familiar with and have bought and sold guns, you have to be licensed. Not so in all States. But if a crime is committed with a gun that you privately sold, given or lend it's going to come back to you.

It is a loophole that needs to be fixed. But again, gun laws don't apply to criminals as they operate outside of the law. So passing more gun laws or banning guns will not solve the problems of gun violence.

If you truly believe this and to be consistent and not hypocritical why don't you start with you?

In a parking lot.  100% legal.  I pay cash, and they give me the firearm.  Many states do not require background checks for private sales.
