2015 worlds strongest man finals
« on: January 02, 2016, 03:13:31 AM »
Just shown on uk telly yesterday, best final I've seen... Brian Shaw is a monster, Zavikis static strength is amazing, Thor similar to Shaw, Uk's Eddy Hall is now right up there as a legit top tier strongman too.

This is the show that got me into weights, I still prefer the bodybuilder /strongman look, jon pol or Gary Taylor etc etc

Does this air in the US?

It was a great final, was pulling for big z but he looked off the ball a bit on the stones. Always better when it's close, that shaw is a fucking monster and must leave the others thinking "what the fuck are we supposed to do against this fucker" at times.

I feel channel 5s coverage feels like it's on fast forward at times I liked it when the bbc did it and the second commentator they had with colin Bruce was a fucking clown with no clue to weights, events ect.

The programs following on spike tv was good watching too, first time I seen Gary Taylor was on them he has an awesome build

I remember when I was a kid, Magnus Ver Magnusson and then Jouko Ahola were the dominant forces and I idolized both.

I saw the final last night although I already knew who won (the actual event took place months ago). I feel Thor looked a bit drained and lethargic as his performances in the Truck Pull and Atlas Stones were off-key (he won those events easily last year).
Shaw is just a monster. A real modern day Goliath.

The best final for me was the 2006 final won by Phil Pfister.

I met Shaw in London when my mate was doing the Brit grand prix, the strongman was on in the same arena in the docklands, He's the biggest human I've ever seen, I'm talking hands, head.... Just a huge man

I think Z suffered in the heat,  was a bit suprised at that commentator he sounded like he was half cut, cracking shit jokes etc

Yeah, this year we got it early in the Summer. For many years we got them in the winter, right around New Years on ESPN. I see you guys got a special series on Spike too, which we didn't. I'll see if I can Youtube it, as it won't play in the States. I've noticed the British usually give better air time to the strength sports, here we usually don't.

One of the commentators is basically a self-aware Alan Partridge.

"The keg toss... which is roughly equivalent to throwing several small children over a double-decker bus."

"They've got to pull a vehicle weighing 10 tons, which is about four elephants... if you measure things in elephants.."

Yeah, it was better when it was aired on the BBC and held in tropical Caribbean locations. The commentator was clearly a guy who doesn't lift and just spent most of the time repeating the same lame jokes. I didn't understand the point of even having him.
Eddy Hall is probably the best in the world at the static strength events but seems to struggle on the events which require more movement and cardiovascular abilities.

Eddy hall is too heavy, you don't need to be 27 stone, i think he should knock a few stone off to be a bit more mobile

The other commentator , danny wallace, is an annoying prick. I think he's part-time failed comedian/presenter. Couldnt believe my ears when I heard his voice in the first show.

Didn't actually care to much for the heats but it was a decent final. The struggles they all had with the truck pull indicated how tough a final it was going to be.

Thor is improving leaps and bounds each year, has to snare a title in the next few years plenty time on his side if he stays healthy. Eddie Hall also improving year-on-year but I agree he's heavier than he needs to be and he's gonna suffer for it.
Big Z probably goes down as my all time favourite,  A barrell-bellied powerhouse.

Hahaha is that the same guy that tries to make it sound scientific, but fucks up his anatomy etc?

Big Z lost it on the 3rd stone when it slipped out his hands, when he saw Shaw then get ahead i think he gave up knowing it was lost. The specials they have shown on spike tv have been great, right from the start in 77 with Franco and Louie,up to Kaz and Jon Pall. Can`t believe that year the truck pull was done on ice haha.

Bodybuilding vs Strongman can be summed up as fictional strength vs functional strength.  I enjoy watching WSM whenever I can.  Real athletes.

I've lost count of the times I've needed to pull a truck, or throw a kettlebell 17ft.. I think I picked the wrong sport.

Yeah...I encounter a Hummer Strenff plate loaded bench press at nearly every intersection on my way to work and Philsubry Schmoeboy Heath has been my constant inspiration in getting through each and every such challenge to reach my goal of making it to work on time.

The drive home is even more difficult with another Jerculean effort needed at several points along the way to grandma's house in the form of another Philsbury fave, the Hummer Stri-Glute AnalEze-Squeeze Machine.  In the Land of the Knee-Walking Turkey, bodybuilders rule.

If you hold your steering wheel at 3 and 9 that's pretty much the squeeze portion of the hammer strength. Thus enabling maximum control of vehicular direction.  :D

Would like to see what Mike Burke could have done had he started his strongman carrer earlier, think he was in his mid 30s and had only trained a few years when he appeared at worlds, built most of his strength as a builder. Says it's his last year which is a shame,.
wouldn't like to race the fucker unloading 3x2 foot flags out the back of a transit...

I would enjoy the program more if the network didn't truncate the coverage to the extent it does.
