Golds Gym Venice - The most overrated gym in the world?

Is Golds the most overrated gym in the world, living solely of the glory days of the past?

I've seen a video of Ronny Rockel and another german pro recently where they trained at Golds, and they agreed that Golds is, eventhough called "The Mecca of BB", probably the most overrated gym ever, and they could never train there on a regular basis. Hardly any serious lifters, mostly attention whores chatting up and to see and to be seen. Barely any Pros, dirty, and the equipment is decent, but nothing special what couldn't be found at any larger gym chain.

Like any famous, epic place; by the time it becomes a household name, the luster has faded.

For example, if you had  trained at the original GOLDs Venice Beach, it would have been a unique experience.
You might have run into Joe Gold or Ken Sprague Sr at the front desk. You could have been training beside BB legends like Robby Robison, Mike Mentzer, Franco or ARNOLD, etc.

However, if you told the avg person this , back in the 1970's , they wouldn't know who/what you were talking about.

This subject comes up from time to time. I've trained there since the early 80s.

It is still to this day the best gym in the world.

From the equipment.....yes some of its older and all of it better than either the Chinese shit made today or the super high tech fancy shit that pencil neck collectors must have.

The breeze from the ocean.

The high energy at atmosphere to this day.

The free grocery bags in the stalls.

Golds is easily one of the best, if not the best, gyms in the world.  Golds has a huge variety of equipment.  Far beyond most gyms.  I think there are like 7 different types of calf machines, numerous types of pec decks for flyes, numerous types of hamstring machines, shoulder and arm machines.  Huge variety in addition to all the free weights that dwarfs what most gyms have.

Never, ever had a bad workout there in many years training.  Never.  There is so much variety.  If you haven't worked out there for several weeks at least, you would never appreciate this.  I was in there in the last year and there is still some energy there.  Not like I've seen it in years past, but plenty more than your average gym, even good gyms in most cities.

I still like Golds, its not air conditioned and its a sweat box and its lost a lot of what it once was especially in the 90s when I visited more frequently, but its still the mecca of bodybuilding and always will be. there's more to a gym than air conditioners and new equipment, the place is full of history even if the atmosphere these days is much less hardcore.
