Sorry to hear that.  My wife loves those little Dachsunds.  So much personality.  Its hard.  I can't even read about other people's animals passing without that lump in my throat and hot feeling.

Humans don't deserve dogs or animals!

TA, man I am sorry. I know we may disagree on politics from time to time, but you are ok in my book being a dog lover. My 12 year old Springer Spaniel had small bowel cancer. Got sick as hell, and my wife took him to Auburn University Vet Hospital and they did chemo and surgery, and we got 18 more months. I loved that dog so much and then the damn cancer came back with a vengeance. I grieved hard but six months later, I knew I had a void in my heart. My wife did too and we got three Springer puppies lol. I know a little much but they remind us so much of our first dog Elvis, that it is a blessing. Give it time and I think you will want to give a loving home to a deserving four legged friend in the near future. Nothing more loyal and loving than a dog my friend. Peace.

The True Adonis

Thanks for the words everyone.  I am taking it very hard and I know from many of you, it was also equally as hard.  Its just an awful thing to have gone from you.  Someone who loved you, wanted not much in return and would wake up each day with the same excitement and appreciation as the day you got them.  Its tough and I honestly can't recommend the feeling to anyone.  I have lost family members, some unexpectedly, some expected and for me, my animals are way more difficult to deal with.

Dogs are the most loyal and loving creatures on Earth. I am sorry for your loss. Give it time, in a few months what makes you cry will make you smile. I cried constantly after losing my beloved boy Elvis. I now have a dog Fisher who is so similar in personality, disposition, and personality that you wonder if Elvis came back...eerily, Elvis died the day before Fisher was born. Good luck bro, it will all work it. Unfortunately, dogs do not have our lifespan although they certainly deserve to live far longer.

Been there done that many times. Have two beautiful boxers currently and the one is getting old. Very sad. But better to have loved n lost than to have never loved at all.

Take care

I've been there. the ride to the vet is one of the most heartbreaking things you can experience.

it's very hard to lose a dog

take solace in the fact that your dog had a good home and lived a good life, because many of them don't, so many dogs never live a life like darwin

getting a new dog will help you move forward as soon as possible

adopt a new dog, one dog lived it's life and dies so another dog can have the same chance

This was my only line of defense against bereavement. Made it ever so slightly easier to cope.

Sorry to hear this TA, its very sad. My dog is 13 and I see him fading sort of steadily now.
Not looking FWD to this...  RIP Darwin... (Dogs > People)

So I just posted this ^^ the other day, we had to put him down today. Went downhill very fast (cancer, arthritis, etc).
Sad time with my wife, oldest girl and I there while they gave him the injection, shit works in like 30 seconds, scary.
Wes, sorry to hear about yours as well, its total sadness. My youngest girl couldnt bare to go with us, she sort of knew this AM when we dropped him off for ultrasound, she said her goodbyes then.

RIP Maxie...

TA,  Sorry for your loss. I know the feeling having had a good number of faithful and loving companions throughout my lifetime as well as numerous other critters.

It takes a while to overcome the sadness of their loss.

Be well, Stunt

Don't you routinely make light of situations where life is lost on this forum?

Other than losing a child, few things are more painful then when a man loses his dog. But it has not gone unnoticed by me how TA has often made made fun and even mocked those who have lost love ones of those they cared about on this board over the years.

Hopefully, now that it has happened to him and he has saw fit to make public his genuine grief that he will develop some compassion and sympathy for those who also suffer such a lost in the future.

I also lost one of my dogs to cancer a few months ago and it was indeed devastating. The dog was only six years old and it came on suddenly and unexpectedly. At least from my perspective.

Bet that dog had one great day after another.  A whole lifetime's worth.  Sounds like you did it right at the end as well.  Got all the good time you could but didn't keep him around in pain for selfish reason.  You did it right all the way through and he would have thanked you for it if he could have.

I can totally empathise with how you feeling.
It's Awuful feeling losing such a Loyal Loving Trusty Companion.

On Thursday last week I Made the very same decision.

Our 13yr old Dalmation Suki - She had been Going down hill
The last couple of weeks - over the last 3 days she was off her feet
Couldn't get up - walk -- We cared and looked after her 24hrs I was
Determined She would be With us & At Home at the End.

She Had A very Poor Night Wednesday & Could Barely Move Her Head,
Hardly Able to Drink out of a saucer under her mouth.

I just could not let it go on any longer. With great sadness, a heavy heart
& many tears I had to carry her to the car, and then carry her into the vets.

We had time with her made her as comfortable as we could,
Stroked her and held her paw.

She was gone in less than 20seconds.
Totally Devastated -- My youngest son is also 13 has not known life without her
Poor Lad it Really has Hit Him Very Hard.

RIP SUKI WE LOVE & MISS YOU SO MUCH.  :'( :'(

There is truly something almost divine and holy when it comes to the relationship between a man and his dog. There is no other relationship between a man and an animal as with a man and his dog. I know the majority of this board doesn't believe in God but I believe a dog is God's way of showing man that there is such a thing as unconditional love. No matter if you are rich or poor, ugly or handsome, smart or dumb, big muscles or a twink... it doesn't matter, your dog will always love you. Nothing lifts my spirits more then coming home to my dogs. When you come home it's like it's the greatest thing that has ever happened to them. The way they jump around with absolute and uncontainable (made up word) joy. My suppose "love ones" never greet me like that and never that glad to see me. The way your dog just follows you around where ever you go. How they just want to be near you and by your side always. When you just look at them in the eye they perk up, ready and waiting to be with you to do whatever you want.

I hope you understand now, TA, that although mourning and giving a parting ceremony like cremation or burial does nothing to bring them back or make any difference to them since they are dead, it means something deeply to those that feel their lost and should be honored and respected by the rest.

I'm sorry for your lost and your broken heart.

So sorry for your loss Adonis. I had to put down my 11 year old bull terrier/ dalmatian mix last month and I cried my eyes out. They really become such a strong part of your family and when gone there's just this gaping hole. Just  wanted to offer my sympathy.

your brother in Christ,

Lucky
