Classic Division vs. Physique Division
« on: May 21, 2016, 01:07:42 PM »
This is the mens Classic Division (first pic below). It doesn't look all that different from the Mens Physique vision. In that sense, they really do not look like a Classic physique from the 70's. The physique guys look almost just as big as the classic guys. Thus, what is the point of the Classic division?

In fact, the guys in the physique division photo look even bigger than the guys in the classic division, Darrem Charles included.

I thought the point of the Classic division was "Mass with Class." You know, something along the lines of Bob Paris, Lee Labrada, Benfatto, etc.

The physique guys look more like Classic bodybuilders than the actual Classic competitors.

physique. you don't train or show your legs. caters to a lot of people. good for revenue  for promoters.

classic, you show the legs so the need to train them is there, thus there won't be to many competitors, but at least the issue of the glutes needing to be shredded is off the table. that is if they wear shorts instead of posing suit. not sure what they wear in classic.

Classic Physique requires to pose using the same mandatories as open bodybuilding minus the most muscluar pose.
Physique division - they don't do this.
Classic Physique is organized by every 1/2 in height and a set maximum weight at said height.
Physique division does not do this.

Yes but judging by the physiques, the classic division does not even represent classic physiques. In fact, the competitors in the physique division have more of a classic physique (at least in the upper body).

What's the definition of a classic physique. 60s? 70s? 80s, something else?

The way the IFBB was describing it, it sounded like a similar build to a Bob Paris.

As long as they don't officially define it, it leaves the door open.

What' so great about partaking in the Classic Division and not even looking half as good as the men in the Physique Division?

I guess you're right. But that means that anyone can compete in any division. I mean, if Phil Heath wanted to keep in the Physique or Classic division, I guess he would be allowed to.

This man, Robert Timms will be the Classic Physique Mr. O for a long time. After he turns pro.

Looks good. And he has more mass than Charles and the other guy, but still is able to keep it within reason.
