It's Hockey. I didn't even know it was in season but I do know 67 days until HS football starts, 74 days until College and 87 until the NFL season starts.

I noticed that I actually had to search the topic as it wasn't trending or even the top sports headline. Very strange. Almost as if everyone's mind was on palm trees and Disneyworld instead of ice.

they don't get the espn promotion any more because they left their network, and the nhl refuses to market their stars

people would rather watch the nba where only about 2 teams each year have a legit shot at winning a championship

I think he means when the NHL left ESPN and went to NBC/NBCSN ten years ago. 

Interesting, they(NHL) originally had a dual deal with ESPN and NBC to do games.  With ESPN being the cable home and NBC being the over-the-air home of the league.  But, when the lockout happened(2004-05).  ESPN opted out of their deal and sold it to NBC. Which forced NBC to upgrade one of their vanity cable channels and rebrand it Versus now NBCSN.
