What is the point of training like this?
« on: June 15, 2016, 11:41:36 AM »
This guy says "there's no substitute for hard, hard work", yet he cheats massively on each exercise and when he can't he does quarter reps.

The point of training like that is that you can train like that and succeed in a professional beauty pageant.

Yes because no one has ever become a mr Olympia by swinging weights.

In my opinion, I do not consider this hard training. Anyone can appear to train hard by using sloppy form, screaming, yelling and using too much weight.

Hard trainers were Dorian Yates, John Defendis, and Steve Michalik.

I dunno, yeah his exercise form has not done him any favours the last couple years and his stage physique is 2-3 years past retirement date, however he did look good prior to that, his being the hardcore looking physique which had it's place in bodybuilding. The torn muscles start to show the wear and tear like I said about 2-3 years ago. people can call his training whatever they like, but the guy did bust his ass throughout his training, and I don't recall him ever shit talking anyone personally so I don't really understand why people hate him. Example is everyone is praising Dexter these past couple years yet when he was Mr O for that one year everyone started to hate him because he was acting like a dick, somewhat comparable to how people feel about Phil.

Cheating and sloppy form can have their place. If you've done a few reps and fatigue the muscle to a point that it can't do another rep of that weight, then I think it's OK to change your body position to gain a mechanical advantage.

Within reason

As long as you put the muscle under stress it will respond with growth, full reps , half reps, partials, it all works and it doesnt really matter which you do.

Doing full range reps all the time causes you to fail at the weakest point of the exercise,

I really hope that you don't think that branch's training style had anything to do with his wins.

This.

His training is absolutely pointless. He could have achieved the same exact results NOT training like this. Many people do.

The point is that you can tear muscles, ligaments, and tendons a lot quicker than doing the opposite of what he does.

There is a point in "overloading" the muscle but in Branch's case it's about the rush - lifting heavy gives him a high... he will do it until he's falling apart, and there are many like him.

It would be interesting to lock him up in a cell with a pair of 40's, all the drugs he wants and let him pump around for a year. I guess he may end up looking not that much different - maybe his legs would shrink somewhat.
