50 Wrestlers sue WWE for CTE

(CNN)More than 50 former wrestlers filed a class action lawsuit against World Wrestling Entertainment on Monday. The complaint alleges that the former wrestlers suffer from long-term brain damage and the development of chronic traumatic encephalopathy, known as CTE, the Alzheimer's-like neurodegenerative disease associated with repeated hits to the head.
According to the suit "...the head trauma that has resulted in injury is the accumulated effect of many impacts to the Plaintiffs' heads that occurred on a regular, routine basis during their WWE career."

The complaint goes on to say that the WWE also failed to provide care for the wrestlers when their injuries occurred and that the "WWE placed corporate gain over its wrestlers' health, safety and financial security, choosing to leave the Plaintiffs severely injured and with no recourse to treat their damaged minds and bodies."

In a statement, the WWE replied that "this is another ridiculous attempt by the same attorney who has previously filed class action lawsuits against WWE, both of which have been dismissed. A federal judge has already found that this lawyer made patently false allegations about WWE, and this is more of the same. We're confident this lawsuit will suffer the same fate as his prior attempts and be dismissed."
Among those suing are WWE Hall of Famers "Mr. Wonderful" Paul Orndorff and "Road Warrior Animal" Joseph Laurinaitis. Former hall of famer Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka, is also listed as a plaintiff. Snuka was ruled mentally incompetent to stand trial on murder and manslaughter charges in the death of his former girlfriend in 1983. Defense attorneys argued Snuka suffered from dementia and that he suffered from concussions during his career.

So being piledriven into the floor and clotheslined by 250-pound behemoths for years and years is bad for you?

Who knew?

FORTRESS, EXACTLY!!! This seems to be another situation in which an individual blames someone other than himself for his own actions.

And then a lawyer jumps into the picture which I am too polite to discuss right now.

I think that the football head injuries are quite different with most everyone believing that the helmets were sufficient enough to protect the players from injury,

But I know nothing about either situation, so accept this as coming from someone who knows nothing about it, but I would jump right into this scenario with these wrestlers immediately  after seeing  CONCUSSION ever though I'm not a wrestler and have never even seen it.

If, when I was 20 years old living in my car, I knew that grueling punishment to my physical body day-in-and-day-out for years on end would have any lasting effects on my health then I would have said "No. I will not subject myself to this."

That is all fine and dandy, but I assume it also depends on how the WWE handled the situation. If the WWE threatened to fire them over not being able to wrestle due to a concussion, then your argument most likely doesn't hold any weight. I suspect that the WWE would have to have some sort of policy surrounding concussions (for example, X amounts of months off to heal from concussion before getting back in the ring). If they were not abiding by these standards, then it would make sense why they would sue.

i think i read a while back that Vince was happy they pinned steroids and coke on chris benoit as the cause of killing his family, because he knew if they said he had some kind of brain damage his world could come to a crumble

also daniel bryan just retired due to CTE he is 35, Vince had to take him on a side show now that he can not wrestle so he wouldn't sue the wwe, even his wife the brie bella quit so that they could sue the wwe

but all shit you just read online , so who knows

OK, under the situation in which the "officials' were aware of damage to an athlete and did what he could do to cover it up to protect his business organization .... that official should be acountable for the cover-up as far back in time when he knew about the injury possibility but did nothing to remedy the situation.

Interesting to see how WWE responds to the PI case.  CTE is no joke and is very sad for a young person (especially) to endure.  Long term care and assistance is required and recovery is therefore mandatory for the patients survival.

Some of the names listed as part of the lawsuit come across as frivolous.  However, there is no question that some of the chair shots guys have taken could result in long-term damage.  The question is how the company handled circumstances where guys were hurt.  If they were pushed into continuing to work through known head injuries, there could be merit in a some cases.  The old adage was that you worked no matter what.

If they are forced to work while injured.  WWE and other wrestling promotion would threaten to blackball people if they complained.  Now that the WWE is public company, its to be expected.  The lawsuit is bunk but the WWE will likely settle.

What's funny is some of these people are still "active" wrestlers and some of the older guys would jump between territories so how can someone like Barry Darsow or Bill Eadie prove that it was WWE's fault and not Fritz or Gagne's territory. Ridiculous
