Easy solution. Mow it back and plant apple trees on it then call it an orchard.  Also, the USDA will pay you for crop gains and crop losses and you can get all kinds of grants etc...

I also know people who would be willing to use your land.  Let me know...

There are similar rules here where I live. If you keep livestock on your land, it is taxed as farmland at a much lower rate than residential land. Get some Lama's. That is what folks do around here.

Marty, what is your current property tax rate?  I thought NC had a state income tax, therefore property taxes were fairly cheap.  How many acres are we talking?  What would be the potential savings with an agriculture exemption?

Lease it to a farmer. How many acres do you have? If it's only a few, maybe some sort of produce stand. You're pretty handy, just build one and sell the tomatoes, sweet corn etc. If you have a forty or something larger, lease it to a farmer and use that to pay the annual taxes. You can probably get $150 per acre per year, which would probably be more than your tax bill.
