UFC Rule Change Needed?
« on: December 04, 2016, 07:48:27 AM »
Anyone catch the Ryan Hall / Gray Maynard fight?

Hall is a leg lock expert. His strategy is to pepper his opponent with front leg kicks, and when his opponent closes the distance, Hall tries to roll into a leg lock position.

It's an effective strategy partly because you're not allowed to kick a downed opponent.

So, he can go to the ground intentionally and if he gets his position, attempt to tear up his opponent's knee without having to worry about getting kneed or kicked in the head.

The rule should be that if you intentionally go to the ground, your head is fair game to be kicked.

i dont think allowing kicking in the head on a grounded fighter would send out a good message.

It would only be if the fighter goes to the ground intentionally.  The crowd was booing the fight because Hall kept flopping to the ground. It's not a fan friendly style.

I wouldn't have a problem with it. The big thing is that it probably wouldn't make it through most state athletic commissions. They'd see it as too violent, more akin to the old Worldstar head stomp, than anything sporting.

Purposely falling to the ground doesn't send a good message either

You're probably right. In that case, the smart move would be to ban the heel hook. Why risk guys having their knees torn up?

It doesn't mean we're bad guys :)

If there is one thing I insist on, it is that UFC maintain its well-known high-brow, deeply intellectual production standards.

Would probably be a lot more watchable if they got rid of the 'ground game'

they always talk about the evolution of mma

well it would be nice to see who was the best kicker - on the ground.

just calls for a whole different approach to training.

I remember as a teen hearing voices wanting to ban boxing due to its violence. 20 years later, ground and pound is aceptale.

That's why Pride FC was the best!

Point deduction for stalling, knee and kick on down opponent + fights were judged as a whole, no stupid 10-9 rounds who is better suited for boxing.

Yellow/red cards + great production & all fans/audience were very educated. Grappling exchanges were highly appreciated.

Meanwhile in 'Murica: drunk fans chanting "Jew-SA, Jew-SA" and only want to see blood. yeah a sport  ::)

Maynard was likely hit by 100 kicks he had no answer for and he didn't even give ground and pound a try.  If your losing you should at least try going to the ground.

bb shows should allow grappling. theyre already oiled up so to have a few rounds of oil wrestling would be a real crowd pleaser.

This is the game Hall plays on the ground. In a no rules fight, you could try kicking him in the face with your free leg, but that's illegal in the UFC.

Funny, coming from one whose favorite pastime is to tirelessly pursue verbal sparring with anonymous halfwits on a bodybuilding forum.
