Why should and american citizen not be free to buy a cheaper better product imported?
Same for export? why not sell outside usa?
Why do we have Obama style trade regulations like TPP and cap n trade?
Why is it ok for a tiny few government idiots to take money and restict traders?
There is no American trade, there are companies here who trade with others outside USA.
Managing or blocking or regulating such free trade misses the fact that trade is always good.   If someone offers you X you won't buy it unless its a GOOD DEAL.
Giving monopoly to domestic corps, who then force worse product at higher price on citizens, makes citizens poorer......

Most countries have tariffs on imports, the idea is to keep the national economy strong.

Just because a product is cheaper doesn't mean its better (Chinese dog food ring a bell).

How do you keep an economy strong by forcing citizens to buy a more expensive higher priced product?

Cheaper and better is what was said.

The key is people will willingly buy it.

If you willingly buy something, then its the best deal in your opinion.   This is key.   That means it is cheaper AND better.

I think the bigger issue is countries that basically run on a lower moral threshold with no concern for the environment and human rights are impossible to compete with. To "let" them play in our sand box, they're going to have to pay a little more. But if they were to play basically by the same rules and follow the law, their prices would be more competitive I imagine.

There's a big incentive for American corporations to invest in other countries when a bribe is all it takes to get your way.

Ultimately, I see Trump as being one of the few presidents that will probably understand economics enough to make an informed decision.

Moral environmentalism is a joke and myth.

To improve the environment you need to burn ofssil fuels, lots of them.

The human environment is the best its even been and fossil fuels help the environment.

Free trade without government middleman is good.
Any interferance is bad.
Government regulations or middle men only make people poorer.
There is no reason why a us citizen should not be able to but a product if they want, and no moral reason a government has to charge the citizen or the foriegn seller.
IF other countries stupidly do it who cares?  We still get the offer of a good product, and if the price is right should be able to buy it withotu our own tax parasites getting in the middle.

Of course.  It made the most economic sense at the time to do that.  He wants to make it so it makes more sense to do it here from now on.  That's the whole point.
