I don't think the "defect" argument holds up logically. That argument would have merit if everbody were gay because, yes, then humanity (or whatever species) would die out. But in every culture the great majority of people are exclusively or mostly heterosexual and some people (animals too) are gay. That's the way it is and always has been with it playing out in very different ways in different times and places. To call this reality a "defect" is a stretch. Why would a higher being or evolution (whichever of the two you believe in) create such a consistent defect across all times and places?
Wow well thanks for engaging the topic on an intellectual level. Appreciate that.
Don't see why you're against thinking of it as a defect. It's not pervasive throughout the whole species, yes, because obviously if it were there'd be no species to think of a generation away.
Normal mating behavior is between a female and a male. Mating leads to children, leads to propagation of genes, leads to an expansion of the population.
The ones born gay end that. Unless they go against who they are and pretend heterosexuality.... it's not like their actual bodies are defective and incapable of reproduction.
As for why it exists, either though a higher power or evolution? Honestly my guess is that something in the mind gets tweaked during fetal development. And a man who is supposed to be attracted to women accidentally is now attracted to men. *He* can't help it, which is why I've got nothing against him.
Remember that there's equal chance of inheriting the XX or XY chromosomes. As the fetus grows and sex differences start to become pronounced, I'd hypothesize that something in the brain goes the other way.
So you've got a boy developing, but through that genetic flaw his mind is coded to be attracted to other men.
Same thing with girls.
So it's got nothing to do with evolution precisely, but rather a *failure* of it. Like I said, some people are born with obvious physical deformities. Are we not allowed to call these things defects? Just because the gay thing happens in the mind and isn't visible doesn't mean it's any less not the way a normal human (in the REPRODUCTION aspect ONLY) is supposed to be.
Nowhere am I saying that gays are dumber, or worse human beings, or anything of the sort. I'm just acknowledging that they're born different, and since that difference halts reproduction in its tracks, it's considered a species defect.
