The country I live in had a massive emigration in the early 2000's due to a recession.
The people who left were middle to lower class, usually spending a sum of money that could have been used to start a small business (50-80 times the minimum wage). The money was usually borrowed from underground lenders (coyotes/criminal bands), with super high interests and death threats to the borrower's family.
Sounds like a very bad decision IMO, but a lot of people (in absolute terms, not relative terms) have succeded following this path.
In my experience, there are 2 types of immigrants.
1. The smart guys who work hard and live frugally. They come back and start their own business with the money they've saved. They are a minority.
2. People who just want to escape from the crisis. They just want to live in a nicer place. They are very average, with dead end jobs. They enjoy the increased quality of life in their new home and that's enough for them.
All in all, we're not bad people. The worst you could say about immigrants from my country is that they're heavy drinkers and they're proud of it lol.
It really depends where you come from. The middle East surely have some messed up ideologies. How many of them support those ideologies... I have no idea.
