It's the contradiction that's troubling. We laugh and applaud a male who sleeps with a teacher but make a victim out of female who does the same. It's in a mans nature to feel protective toward the females of his tribe and the objection to a male teacher/female student affair is understandable in that context. There is a strong instinctual drive to protect the innocence and virtue of a virginal young maiden.
But this attitude is just a throw back to the archaic idea that teenage girls are inherently nonsexual and to dumb and naive to realize what they doing. This is also and odd position to take considering the prevailing wisdom that women mature faster emotionally than men. If this is true, a male who engages in a relationship with an older person in a position of power is more of a victim than a female.

So much this. I'm sick of these female teachers getting off with lighter sentences.
