Some guys whole identity is tied up with getting compliments on their steroid muscles. They will risk health to protect their fragile ego. They will rationalize away the justifications of using drugs so they can lose their insecurities.

I think the guys that win in this game are the ones that train naturally. Yes, I'm going there. Those that train for health and strength. I have more respect for a guy that runs 6 days a week and hits either the weights or body weight stuff than any guy juiced.  Truth be told if they only knew how many people make fun of steroid guys. I got news for you. Everyone knows how you got that way.  Only the fools don't.

I will quit after a certain level of competitive success is when I will quit bodybuilding the sport sense, but never the lifestyle (love to train, the gym culture, so healthy etc)

I am slowly adjusting my training for life extension principles too (hot yoga, stretch, stay away from epic big lifts)

bodybuilding/being OCD about my appearance keeps me living a clean life. if i didnt care what I looked like so much, i could see myself being kinda fat and a sloppy drunk times. I love a good hedonistic time. but I still enjoy myself as a bber just infrequent periods of time. this weekend, had apple pie, ice cream, candy and all kinds of Mexican food and burgers etc.

when i am quite older, i will do an offseason and a "diet mode" good to keep bodyfat low but good to enjoy a little softer self too - do a masters division etc every 3-4 years

ii need a certain level of success to quit quit

Great post and perfect example of how to be a lifelong bodybuilder.
Everyone should consider their bodybuilding life as a book.
Each phase of your bodybuilding is a chapter, you write in that book.

Fine as a hobby, but if it's your life and you're not earning enough from it to earn a decent living or don't have another line of work which does, then it's time to reconsider.

When you realise that you have looked pretty much the same for a few years despite all the training, dieting and roiding. You just loose passion for it.

I still train 4 times a week with weights and 3 times a week boxing class but i feel like i just train because i've always been doing it and it's part of my life routine.

Seriously though, good question. Do bbers stop only went they fuck up their life or health?
seems to me most do it to death. Even when health starts to fail they are too addicted to go back to normality.
