Can you hang from a pull-up bar (overhand grip) for 100 secs?
« on: August 04, 2017, 09:25:14 PM »
... if so, you can make some quick money on the streets of Medellin, Colombia.

Just got in from my Friday night and saw some guys set up a chin-up bar on a busy sidewalk in downtown Medellin.  One after another passersby handed over the equivalent of either $25 or $50 for a chance to double their money.  Watched about a dozen hombres try and nobody could hang for more than about a minute.

Should have known this when I was young. When training judo I eventually could hang for 45 seconds per hand, at a bw of 275. Couldn't get to 45 seconds even with straps these days. ::)

That's pretty hard
But I would be worried for the person that won the money
I would imagine they would be killed after by the guys running the game

it was legit ... in a nice neighborhood (where I live)  ... with a big professional poster advertising the game and the rules ... run by a few harmless nerdy university students (guys & gals) ... and drew a big crowd.

they officially counted down the 100 seconds with the timer on an iPad for all to see.

the only "trick" is that the bar was thicker than a typical pull-up/chin-up bar which makes it harder to get a good grip.

I would've given it a go, but I completed a brutal back/delts workout a few hours earlier ... and I just came out of a restaurant having feasted on a huge dinner ... and I was wearing pretty good threads which weren't suitable for the task.  :)

Wtf? We did that in school but held ourselves in the top position of an underhand grip pull-up. Everyone was required to do 60 seconds, but many went longer.

Yes, but now it's all about thumb development via texting.  That is the next level of physical fruitness for kids these days.

And I have zero doubts I would be able to do the 100 seconds. Maybe 20?
