Matt you're funny.
I meant - if the contest is an outdoor contest and if it is a hot day, I may lose a few pounds competing out in the sun.
But the contest may be indoor, which changes things. In that case, I will probably stay around 170 for the full day. I generally eat nothing until after the contest is over. I have such a small appetite. I have literally never eaten more than a Gatorade and an applesauce container before or during a contest. Small appetite.
what class are you competing in, featherweight or fruit fly?
Lightweight - the current lowest weight class in CAASA - under 170-lb.
There was a time period where I would have been very competitive at 170, with a gym bench of almost 350 at 170. But not right now. My gym bench may only be 310 by the time of the contest - which is some time toward the end of next month.
For some perspective, one of the events is one-armed dumbbell press for reps using a 110-lb dumbbell. Meanwhile, the open weight class contest I am competing in next week in Thunder Bay, "Motors & Muscles", has a 140lb circus dumbbell for reps.
So having had the experience competing in weight classes above my body weight, if not open weight classes, for so many years in Thunder Bay, CAASA Nationals will not be particularly hard for me. A one-armed dumbbell press using 110-lb should be no problem.
My max ever in contest was 125, and I probably could have gotten 130 that day. I don't expect to get the 140 next week though. I may get it to my shoulder and attempt to press it, but I will not be successful.
Here is photo from the newspaper from the most recent contest I was in, CAASA Provincials, from ten days ago:
