« on: August 20, 2017, 03:35:52 AM »
I thought they were 36 hours like most other feds

suppose I can cut 4 or 5 pounds without a deficit in performance

with 36 hours 15-20 can be lost

damn  >:(

Most of the contests that I compete in are local contests with loose rules.  Regardless, I was 170 competing in a 200-lb or 210-lb weight class so I always had plenty of room.

For CAASA Strongman Nationals next month, I need to weigh 170 on the day of the contest - I think it may be two hours before, but whatever it is, it's not very much time to put on weight.  I intend to weigh-in at 170 and compete at 170, if not a bit less due to dehydration.

Total noob here. Just curious, what's the rational for competing at a weight class above you own? Or is it more like a range? And why do you need to weigh 170 to compete in the 200 range. I have no idea how any of this works.

ideally you should weigh as much as possible for the weight class you wanna compete in

I can lose at least 10 pounds and put it back on all before the comp with a 36 hour prior weigh in, maybe even 20 pounds

some of those mmgay turds drop 30 pounds for a 36

but only 2 hours prior doesn't give nearly enough time to refuel and regain

I'd say for a 2 hour weigh in the top amount you can drop is bout 5-6 pounds

I did do a bench comp with a 2 hour weigh in and I only drank black coffee and nothing else and had a dump and I was 3 pounds lighter

You don't want to be losing a lot of weight for powerlifting meet, very close

Not like bodybuilding where the thongian warrior can give the illusion of not being tired a fuck.

I'd say tthat the leaner and bigger than you are within class limit would be the greatest advantage as muscle moves weight not fat

but the strange thing is.... The vast majority of the guys, even the lighter guys are fat fucks ie. Over 8%

I'd say get down to 5-6% for best results

Obviously, the leaner the better - but that comes at the cost of getting that lean and staying that lean (because dieting for powerlifting is not something you want to be doing).

once i get very lean it is VERY EASY for me to stay there

right now i'm a buck 50 @ sub-7 so i can easily make the 66 kg class which is a buck 45

the next class down is 59 kg which is a buck 30, if i had 36 hour weigh in i could make it there from my current buck 50

but with a 2 hour weigh in i'd have to get down to at least a buck 37 which is 12 pounds and i only have maybe 5 more pounds of fat that i could lose TOPS

from all the shit i've read on the net bout healthy bodyfat levels the general concencess is donw go under 5% but one article said as long as you are not under 2% you're ok  :D :D :D

Unfortunately from 2006 until 2016 there was no 170-lb class.  I competed in a 180-lb class a couple of times, and a 185-lb class, but generally it was over/under 200 just to make the organization of the contest easy.  This was annoying for me, and annoying for 220-lb guys competed against 300-lb monsters.

Since last year, there have been far more specific classes, and finally, I have a weight class that I can max out.

One morning I woke up and found my favorite pigeon, Julius, had died. I was devastated and was gonna use his crate as my stickball bat to honor him. I left the crate on my stoop and went in to get something and I returned to see the sanitation man put the crate into the crusher. I rushed him and caught him flush on the temple with a titanic right hand - he was out cold, convulsing on the floor like an infantile retard.

Matt you're funny.

 ;D

I meant - if the contest is an outdoor contest and if it is a hot day, I may lose a few pounds competing out in the sun.

But the contest may be indoor, which changes things.  In that case, I will probably stay around 170 for the full day.  I generally eat nothing until after the contest is over.  I have such a small appetite.  I have literally never eaten more than a Gatorade and an applesauce container before or during a contest.  Small appetite.

what class are you competing in, featherweight or fruit fly?

 ;D ;D ;D

Lightweight - the current lowest weight class in CAASA - under 170-lb.  :)

There was a time period where I would have been very competitive at 170, with a gym bench of almost 350 at 170.  But not right now.  My gym bench may only be 310 by the time of the contest - which is some time toward the end of next month.

For some perspective, one of the events is one-armed dumbbell press for reps using a 110-lb dumbbell.  Meanwhile, the open weight class contest I am competing in next week in Thunder Bay, "Motors & Muscles", has a 140lb circus dumbbell for reps.

So having had the experience competing in weight classes above my body weight, if not open weight classes, for so many years in Thunder Bay, CAASA Nationals will not be particularly hard for me.  A one-armed dumbbell press using 110-lb should be no problem.

My max ever in contest was 125, and I probably could have gotten 130 that day.  I don't expect to get the 140 next week though.  I may get it to my shoulder and attempt to press it, but I will not be successful.

Here is photo from the newspaper from the most recent contest I was in, CAASA Provincials, from ten days ago:
