It feels good when you first go conservative. It feels like sliding into a slot that's been there since the dawn of time, and only now you've realized that it's your turn to act out a role that countless millions have acted before you. There is a noticeable harmony with human nature that simply isn't there with leftism.
Sure, leftism has a shower of positive feeling and the thrill of rebellion, but it doesn't compare to the warm glow of resonating with truth.
Life as a leftist always seemed confusing. I saw only arbitrary rules, categories, and boundaries. Nobody explained to me why we had nations, why degeneracy was wrong, why we can't adopt every lost puppy and refugee. Step by step, being a conservative meant discovering why every stone is where it is.
We see how walls protect, how shaming helps people improve, and how loving your family results in the unfortunate exclusion of others. We see how "to each his own" is wrong, in a social species where we influence each other in millions of ways. It is our right as humans to create societies with people who share our values, and not have to live in constant strife and friction with another 1000 warring tribes.
Only as a conservative can you live accurately, getting a taste of life's bittersweet reality.
