Yep - I've always found that interesting.  I think with Vince Taylor, he was deep into his forties - even placing 3rd at the Australian Pro in 2007 at age FIFTY [almost 51], and still had it all other than conditioning declining a little, and - yep - the legs.  You got that right.

I'm pretty sure this photo is from Vince at the 2007 Australian Grand Prix.  The video is from that contest, and I recall it being posted at the time and being blown away at how good Vince looked at 50 - but as you said, the legs seem to go, even for the best of them:
