Five of seven commissioners told the Tallahassee Democrat they intend to vote for the measure, which Commissioner Mary Ann Lindley proposed two weeks after the Feb. 14 school shooting massacre in Parkland. In addition to Lindley, Commissioners John Dailey, Kristin Dozier, Nick Maddox and Bill Proctor said they intend to vote for it.
Commissioner Bryan Desloge, the lone Republican on the commission, said he’s undecided, though he supports at least parts of the proposal. Commissioner Jimbo Jackson did not return a phone call, though he expressed general support March 2, when commissioners unanimously voted to move it to a public hearing.
Commissioners have already gotten an earful from the public — hundreds of emails have poured in from concerned citizens on both sides of the issue. Those who wrote ranged from Marion Hammer, the NRA’s top lobbyist in Florida, to at least one student from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High Sc
