I'm on holiday or vacationnnnn in Turkey. At the hotel by the pool there's a Muslim family. 45c, husband sitting there in his swim trunks, fat gut hanging out, relaxing. Poor wife just her face showing, dressed in some very uncomfortable body covering outfit. Looks like she's about to pass out, guzzling water by the gallon while he sits there smirking. This woman is seriously suffering. Come on libs, defend this!
There's no reason to defend what is essentially a choice. A lot of religious people do things I don't fully understand because it's a requirement of their faith. Think about members of a Pentecostal movement and other Christian movements emphasizing baptism in the Holy Spirit, evidenced by
speaking in tongues, prophecy, healing, and exorcism. Christian Scientists do not seek medical care when necessary because they believe God will heal them. Some Mormons still practice polygamy. Who knows what Scientology followers are up to besides making a lot of money for their leadership and the church.
Their are tribes where the women extend their necks with a lot of rings and other groups of women who bind their feet to keep them small, even though this limits their ability to walk. Maybe wearing garments which completely hide a person and which are probably very uncomfortable in hot weather seams like a small sacrifice to make. It is also one which can easily be undone.
There are many less drastic and yet still interesting customs groups of people from around the world practice. When my son and daughter-in-law married in Germany, after the civil ceremony her parent's hosted a Polterabend. In this weird pre-wedding German tradition, friends and family of the bride and groom come together and break dishes in the street. And then the bride and groom have to clean up the mess. This way they get to practice 'working together in difficult times.' They made it home and to bed (which was rigged) before sunrise.
