PRIME, I think that aticle addresses the question of lower movie-theater attendance pretty well....

'Last year’s slump in domestic ticket sales can partly be attributed to a very poor turnout during the summer blockbuster season. Theater attendance in the US and Canada during the summer months, which saw releases like Baywatch, The Mummy, and the fifth installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, hit a 25-year low, according to the LA Times. The number of tickets sold from May through Labor Day was reportedly down 16 percent from 2016.

As Bloomberg points out, there are other factors in play, too. As streaming services like Netflix, Amazon, and HBO Go offer more entertainment options, theatergoers may be less likely to leave their homes to watch a movie. Ticket prices also continue to rise, even as startups like the subscription service MoviePass threaten to devalue the movie-going experience.'

But I do think that there has been an increase with regards to movie and TV production.

We took a family of four adults and thee kids to see THE GREATEST SHOWMAN and anf those theater tickets alone came to over $100.

Of course we went to one of those theaters in L.A, where meals are served directly to your seat and that was another $100 plus a BIG PLUS!

It's cheaper to stay home and cook your own popcorn where you can now project a great movie 10 ft. wide and a Bose sound system.

I think that movie theaters as we know them now will be non-existant in  5 - 6 years...... along with all these shopping malls that have empty spaces today.

But there will always be a big demand for home-type enterainment.

Stunt,

You’re my movie/bodybuilding bud but ... Nope.  Movie theaters aren’t going anywhere in the next 5 - 6 years.  Not as long as movies like “Black Panther” and “Avengers” do over $600 million box office in the US alone, plus equally that much in movie theaters abroad.  The studios and the industry are not going to walk away from that much money.  Not anytime soon.

Interestingly, people have been predicting the demise of movie theaters for about, I would guess 70 years now, ever since the advent of television.  So far it’s never happened and won’t for the foreseeable future.

I always thought sports figures were overpaid. Millions to throw a football while a teacher makes 35K but it's capitalism. Players are paid what they are worth, probably the same with actors. When they stop making money for the investors they stop making the big bucks. It is what  it is

Breaking news, something all the Jews in Hollywood know...

ACTORS are HIGH PRICE prostitutes.  Particularly actresses, but also male actors.

Movie and stage actors have to fill seats in theaters/sell tickets to remain viable.

TV actors have to fill seats in front of TVs so ads can be sold.  Huge sums of money are paid by advertisers to sell stuff.

It's a strange talent but some people have a weird stage or screen presence.  It's a magical thing and no one can truly predict who has it.

The saying is "the camera loves them" is how it is put.

Some people are lousy actors.  They overact and you can tell.

Comedians seem to usually be good actors.  Often musicians make the transition to acting also.

Sports stars are usually bad actors.

Guys like Charles Bronson and Clint Eastwood just play themselves.  Most big money actors play themselves over and over.  Johnny Depp is the same in every film.

Lead actors are usually good looking or attractive.  They have a sexual energy.

I like Tom Cruise, his stuff of the 80’s and 90’s are good, one of the few who has lasted for decades, prob the only one at this point

Ryan Reynolds has such a punchable face makes me want to punch a wall seeing that douchebag “act” the same roles in all his movies

The rock is so overrated beyond belief

And nowadays “YouTube” celebs get the fuck out of here

REPS, I hope you're right about the future of movie THEATERS as I do enjoy going to see a good movie in a nice theater, but I still believe that movie theater attendance will drop dramatically within the next five years (as well as shopping malls).

Motion picture production itself will not drop because those movies shot by Hollywood, etc. studios will produce first run features for in-home viewing/entertainment  allowing viewers to save a lot of capital in one year's time.

Theater ticket prices here in Vegas ran from $3 to $6 a pop just a year or two ago and now they have more than doubled (excluding early morning matinees).

They did add those lush reclining seats to justify that price but a good number of the patrons get so relaxed that they fall asleep and never see that $12 motion picture.

I hate it when things that I enjoy the most .... suddenly change. But that seems to be happening a lot these days, so I expect these movie theaters of today ... to be gone tomorrow.

I could be wrong .... and I hope I am.

Up until perhaps five years ago, I frequently visited movie theaters. Prior to the millennium I went very often.

But prices, film offerings, increasing chocolate/shitskin attendance, and the standard of extreme loudness (bloody ridiculous) has made the whole affair mostly unattractive.

Add to this the very unsavoury Joo Hollyweird reality and celebrity fixation and Fortress stays away.

I stopped going to the theater about 15 years ago. Still watched movies frequently up until about 3 years ago. Hollywood movies are absolute shit these days. I think I watched 5 movies last year and most sucked. Series are more interesting, but greed and laziness will ruin those too within the next 5 to 10 years.

Do you ever go to the movies, have cable TV, Netflix or Amazon Prime? If you do you are helping to line actors pockets. It's all about profits.
