Ab Slimming Belts/ Waist Trainers?
« on: July 16, 2018, 12:43:42 PM »
Anybody here use them? Are they just for pussies?

I remember when they first started becoming popular, I just considered it some infomercial bullshit. I think Kai Greene was the first pro I saw wearing one and at the time I thought it was odd, maybe a little desperate. But they're pretty much mainstream now, I see them all over social media and in the gym. I actually ran into a physique competitor who used to work out at the same gym as me over the weekend. He's prepping for a contest and I could see he was wearing a waist trimmer under his tank top.

Haven't been able to get into them personally because they mostly sound like bro-science, but most popular fitness celebrities seem to disagree.

they fucking work

1. wear it tight as shit all the time
2. you are flexing all the time - blood flows into the abs to create tension

pretty you are hitting an ab pose all day long which will tighten your midsection/better posture

sweet sweat belts work

I wear them sometimes when running or on accessory days...not necessarily for cutting..but for support..I have had 2 back surgeries and two abdominal surgeries, so the wear and tear gets to me sometimes..I find the extra heat provided by the neoprene belt really helps with muscle activation and the belt itself keeps me mindful about my back...I do NOT feel that it actually supports my spine, just mentally

I usually have to buy a new one every six months due to the Velcro going bad due to the sweat and friction from my shirt, but they are cheap and I feel they are worth it...but I’m on the fence if it actually helps with fat loss

Amazon has tons of them

How will does the heat help your back? Do you think a weight belt would help more?

Ah, getbig science in action. At least in the responses so far, it looks like people who use it think it works.  Which, I guess, is not shocking.

There are two schools of thought, not necessarily competing, on what they do. Some people say that their primary purpose is making you sweat around your stomach which causes you to burn belly fat faster. I am skeptical of this. This just sounds like classic spot reduction myth.

The other is that it essentially  gives you an ab workout that lasts for however long you have it on. This isn't entirely unreasonable, but I guess the question just comes down to how effective that "workout" is.

Might try, but will probably wait until later in the year. Most of my summer shirts are on the tighter side.

The heat helps me a lot...it takes my core a lot to safely warm up without hurting something...so I can throw that on and run to the end of my driveway and back(1/2 mike +/-)and I’m good.

Just to be clear...I use one regularly and do not really believe it helps with fat loss...but its a cheap experiment at $10-$20....so give it a try

Oh, yeah, I got your post. Ha ha I was just kidding.  Your post actually reminded me that I think I have one at home that someone gave me for back support issues that I never used.

Not really judgmental about anyone's pov here. like you said, it's really easy enough to try, just interested in seeing what other people experienced.  used to think it was complete bullshit but peer pressure might be changing my mind.  :D

Once you drink water, you are replacing the sweat you lost from the belt.  :(

This guy makes an interesting case for what a waist trimmer is good at doing. He says the  efficacy is not the increased sweat, but the increased blood circulation. For most people, the midsection is the last place to get conditioned and if you use a belt during cardio, it ups your fat burning quotient.

On one hand, that sounds like a pretty logical explanation. On the other, doing deadlifts seems logical, too, but I think we've established that they're actually useless.

yes its blood circulation. plus you are doing an ab flex 10 hours a day, so its a mini vaccum - it may not make more ripped but it makes your waist smaller,

they freaking work x 100. personal experience - my top notch figure chica showed me the way with the waist trainer

So, the one I have at home is neoprene (like most are i think). How do you care for it? Just wearing it during cardio would probably make it smell pretty bad. 10 hours a day, outside of a place where you can get away with not smelling your best...  :o  You cant machine wash it, so does hand washing it every night wear it out quickly? Is there a lingering odor?
