Basically, it sounds like she was done anyway, but probably got some type of salary while inactive.  With her brother being the POTUS, and the witch hunt to get anyone that's met him; as his sister she likely figured it was time to make it official so she'd just be left to enjoy her old age w/o dealing with bullshit.

Federal Judges who retire receive their same salary for life.  If they go Senior before retiring they continue to increase their salary with a very reduced caseload.  She's been Senior since 2011.
