HUNGRY???
« on: April 09, 2019, 09:53:59 AM »
WARNING: The attached photos are not appropriate to put on a bodybuilging board such as this, but it may enlighten some of us who have yet to experience HUNGER .... and possibly encourage some of us to take a small step or a giant leap to alleviate this world wide problem.

Every once in a while I run across an individual on the Strip who is standing on the street begging for something ...  mostly money or food.

And most of those times I hand over my extra sandwich (McDonald's or Whte Castle or a dollar or two), but recentlyI became much more aware of HUNGER on a world wide basis when I was asked to take a look at some photos that made my stomach turn ... and those photos have encouraged me to do something about it locally.

I don't think any GetBigger has experienced a serious lack of any form of nurishment ... but here are a few photos which I'm having a hard time to shake out of my head    ......  and which may encourage a few GetBiggers to always carry an extra sandwich or a couple of extra bucks in their pockets.

By the way ... One day I saw a street prrson standng outside of McDonald;s who was begging and looked likehe needed a decent meal.

So I bought and extra Mac and a small Coke and handed it to him, but he only stared at me and said, "What the fuck am I supposed to do with this?".

So ... never expect a 'thank you' in return. Just feel good that you made the attempt!

Where are these starving people?  All I see are overweight people everywhere I go.

huge poverty in the mid west · Poverty in America: In the Midwest, a forever recession. It's a Brookings Institution report on the "re-emergence" of concentrated poverty in America. In the video, Alan Berube lays it out in brief and makes one very interesting — and alarming — marco point: In the cities of the Midwest, "the recession that started at the beginning of the decade never really ended."

I live in the midwest and I still see fat people everywhere.  The poverty talked about in 1st world America is nothing like the pics you posted of Africa.  What we call poverty is people driving cars and watching big screen t.v.'s.  There is no reason why anyone should go without food in America unless the person chooses.  Poor people qualify for food stamps (and these are even advertised in some places) as well as school breakfast and lunch programs at schools in poor areas.  The only people going without enough food to survive are kids of drug addicts (whose kids will be taken away as soon as this is realized) or anorexics or bodybuilders getting ready for a contest. :)

In the states there are MANY outreach programs for the hungry.

Most churches have a biweekly or monthly food pantry where people can get groceries. And in the midwest there is a church on every corner.

Theres also government programs, like a snap benefits card.

That's complete nonsense. America has an obesity problem. Hunger has been next to eradicated. Try pretending you are homeless sometime and then ask for help in finding food. I can assure you you'll end up fat. The leading cause of death in the USA is heart disease. Not starvation- not by a long shot.

That being said. America does have a malnutrition problem. Too much garbage in the food chain.

HYPER, You are correct but ....

"A small (relative to the population) and unacceptable number of isolated or abused disabled elderly and a very few terribly abused and neglected children in the US do starve to death every year in the USA, however starvation is extremely rare."

One site that I recall at present mentioned two child deaths  in one year 'but never more than 12".

12??!!!!

The primary nutritional consequence of deep poverty in the USA is obesity with poor nutrition and often anemia.
