Pumping Iron was the first time I can remember a film having such an effect. I saw it in the theater when it was first released in 77' as a kid. I already knew of Arnold before this having lived in California in the 70's it would be hard not to know of him back then.
   I can remember all the guys in the niehborhood after seeing Pumping Iron, all running to JCPenny or Sears to go buy weights back then. everybody wanted to be Arnold. I still have the first muscle magazine that I bought as a kid, 1975-6. I will have to go look at it again.

no seriously even as a kid i always watched uk and wsm. i always just remember being the strongest and being obsessed with it how far i could throw could i lift that rock etc. i think its inherent in some people.

I remember when I was about 5 yrs old seeing Arnold guest star in the Streets of San Francisco with Michael Douglas and Karl Malden (anyone remember that one?) and wanting to be like that when I grew up  ;D
