As a westerner, think of electric cars this way - it makes oil pumping driven economies suffer a.k.a. middle east. Less money, less jihad.

Assuming you generate electricity from hydro, wind, nuclear or solar. In 2018, in the USA, 63% of electricity was generated by burning fossil fuels. Only 17% was from renewable sources. Going all electric will eliminate point source pollution (tail pipe emissions) but will have zero effect on oil/coal/natural gas consumption (for now).
