These crazy images were created by French artist Jean-Marc Cote, and a few others back in 1899, 1900, 1901, and 1910.

Basically they were asked to imagine what life would be like in the year 2000.

5 or 6 of them were amazingly pretty accurate.

Not sure what the fascination with the underwater stuff was though.

Maybe they thought Underwater Bases would be a thing a la "The Spy Who Loved Me" and "Underwater".

So basically a 100 years ago they thought we would have developed a lot more than we have.

I'm disappointed that we neither fly more or spend more time under the sea.

I remember the drawings from the 70ies and 80ies... everything was imagined to be a perfect mix of organic and synthetic "material".
The comic series Aeon Flux(90ies) also captures that style a bit, albeit it hints at the more "sinister" and "dark" components.

Well, it didn't quite turn out like that.
