Portland Shuts Down Roads For Covid
« on: April 29, 2020, 10:22:31 PM »
Honestly, how good is the weed in Portland? I don't understand how this benefits anyone? Is somebody being paid for creative ways to fuck up the economy and change the way things are done?

There are almost no neighborhood streets in Portland that are as wide as the one in that diagram. Be that as it may, what's the harm in limiting traffic on metropolitan side streets? I think the department of transportation should lobby to make this a permanent change. I live on a feeder street that is not within the Portland city limits. During more normal times there are a lot of people who use this street and very few who obey the 25 mph speed limit. Barriers have been proven to reduce the speed of traffic. This may have no effect on social distancing but it would sure make our neighborhood kids safer.

There are some neighborhoods in the city of West Linn where neighborhood streets have strategically located islands even though the streets are of standard width. There is no way that someone could speed down one of these streets without crashing their vehicle. Just for the record, I think turnarounds are much more effective than 4 way stop signs....and I am not alone in this thinking.

Usually Portland has fat Antifa whales in the way to slow traffic.  So, due to the virus, they have to make alternate plans.

Why have a city? Why undo what has worked for 100 years? Why not just live in mud huts?  ;D

It gets even better:

Voters in metropolitan Portland, Oregon, will be asked Tuesday to approve taxes on personal income and business profits that would raise $2.5 billion over a decade to fight homelessness even as the state grapples with the coronavirus and its worst recession in years.

The ballot measure was planned before the pandemic reduced the U.S. economy to tatters. Proponents, including many business leaders and major institutions, argue the taxes are needed now more than ever in a region that has long been overwhelmed by its homeless problem.
